AN OPEN AND FLEXIBLE METHODOLOGY
Our methodology is flexible since it is constantly updated to stay abreast of current innovation in the teaching profession. The fundamental objective is to maintain the highest educational quality, constantly moving forward and discarding methods that have become obsolete.
As a English School, our methodology is open to international educational innovation, which will be of benefit to our students as they take their places in an increasingly wider world.
As a completely private school, that is to say, without any financial support from the local education authority, St George’s has a greater measure of independence when it comes to defining the curriculum, and is able to establish a greater number of teaching hours for all subjects taught at school. The English language is introduced at infant level (all activities are done using English as the language of communication with native teaching staff), and, in doing so at much early stage where learners are most receptive, we seek to establish the foundations of a truly bilingual education through linguistic immersion that will be consolidated throughout the student’s school life.
From the last year of infant school (5 years), the children begin learning all the subjects covered in the Spanish and Basque curriculum. The time given to such studies is gradually extended as the children reach the higher Baccalaureate stage of secondary level education, though even at this stage the English language continues to be given a predominant position, with some courses taught in the language. In fact, at the end of their schooling, students at St George’s will have received 500% more teaching hours in the English language than the level established in the national curriculum. Our aim is not just for students to have a good command of the English language, but ultimately to use the language as a bilingual speaker.
At St George’s we foster an atmosphere that encourages the development of the students´ personality and maturity in a definite Educational Project of basic principals for the achievement of excellence. |
