Cambridge International Examinations

Well Done!

Good morning and welcome to our Cambridge Certificate ceremony for the 2017-2018 academic year.

This year again, in all levels, St. George’s students have done extremely well, and this year again, two-thirds of the class group leaving Baccalaureate for higher studies have obtained the highest external qualification available.

The success of our students is due primarily to their willingness to set a goal for themselves and to their ability to work hard to reach that goal. We consider this to be a core value of St. George’s English School and one which will help them in all of their life pursuits, whether academic, professional or personal.

To those of you receiving certificates today, please know that everyone in this academic community, and that includes your parents, your teachers and your classmates, is extremely proud of you and your accomplishments. And to those of you students in the audience today in support of your classmates, we hope we’ll be seeing you up on stage next year.

The former British consul, Mr Derek Doyle, will hand out the certificates.

We begin with PET - which stands for  Preliminary English Test - which is an intermediate level and the first official examination we put our students in for, the equivalent of level B1 in the Common European Framework.

We are excited and proud to mention the we have had a one hundred percent pass rate in the PET exam this year, with ALL the students of our Year 7 class receiving this certification.

Now we have the certificates for FCE - First Certificate in English - which is level B2 in the Common European Framework.

This upper intermediate level enables the learner to interact with native speakers in a natural, spontaneous way with no strain on either party.  In many private universities here, it is often needed as a minimum requirement for entry.

Next, we move on to CAE - Certificate in Advanced English - which is level C1 in the Common European Framework.

This is a qualification for high achievers.  Learners use this qualification for undergraduate or graduate-level study in the UK and to work at professional or managerial level in international business.

Finally, we have the diplomas for CPE - Certificate of Proficiency in English - the highest external qualification available, which demonstrates proof of exceptional English ability and the ability to use English at near-native levels in a wide range of situations.
